A lack of affordable housing is a crisis that plagues the entire Bay Area.
Fairfax has a history of seeking housing solutions that work. Bennett House was built several decades ago, and this year, affordable senior housing was approved in a way that keeps local control and public input in planning decisions.
Various small scale solutions, such as Junior Second Units, and legalizing accessory units with an amnesty that addresses the real issues around them, can help to provide spaces needed by the people of Fairfax. Spaces that provide for our artists and musicians, workers, kids, and elders are paramount. I believe that this can be furthered in the least disruptive way by promoting these low impact solutions, along with the preservation of alternative spaces such as the ones at School Street Plaza.
